MCLA HotSpots
The college has begun deploying wireless network hotspots around campus. The first hotspot was installed on the ground floor of Murdock. Additional wireless zones can be found in the Freel Library and the Campus Center's Centennial Room. For help setting up your wifi-ready laptop or PDA visit the Helpdesk in Murdock or check the Helpdesk webpage for more tips. What's New -In- the Labs Aside from the wireless network, only a few behind the scenes additions have been made to the computer labs.
This Spring the number of classrooms using the Manhattan Online Course System has increased to 41! In fact, at least one course is being held completely on-line! To check out Manhattan get your email username and password ready and click here. Helpdesk Mini-Courses This semester the Helpdesk will be holding "mini-courses" for faculty and staff. To start off this project we will be holding courses in Webmail and the Manhattan LMS system. We would like to tailor these courses to the needs of the faculty and staff so please email any suggestions to helpdesk@mcla.edu. |
Pine & Webmail
A year after its initial rollout Webmail is still gaining popularity. If you're interested in switching from Pine or Netscape to Webmail please check out the new Webmail pamphlet or contact the Helpdesk for tips. If you're interested in diving right into webmail visit webmail.mcla.edu and simply log in with your email username and password. Dorm Networking Over 600 students get to the Internet through our dorm network. If you need Internet access for your PC and you live on-campus give the Helpdesk a call at extension 5276 or stop by. If you're interested in connecting your laptop to the network, bring it with you and we'll get you connected in no time. More Enhanced Classrooms Computer Support has been busy increasing the number of tech-ready classrooms. The campus now sports six standard-sized classrooms fully outfit with multimedia technology. Both of the Bowman lecture halls (101 and 102) have been updated with new multimedia equipment. And finally, two new classrooms will be outfitted with projectors and PCs for presentations. Lab Hours The Murdock labs schedule is as follows: Monday-Thursday: 8 am - 11 pm Friday: 8 am - 5 pm Saturday: 10 am - 8 pm Sunday: 12 pm - 11 pm Holidays often affect the lab schedule, visit the Helpdesk for specific dates. Additionally, the lab is open for extended hours during final exams. |
